Cyd Lacanienta, MSW is Associate Director for Stakeholder Engagement, Community and Collaboration Core (CCC), Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In this role she is responsible for oversight and direction of JHICTR's community engagement initiatives and multidisciplinary collaborations on sustained engagement and team science. Ms. Lacanienta has a graduate degree in macro and clinical social work from the University of Maryland Baltimore, specializing in systems administration, community mobilization and public policy. With over 25 years’ experience in community engagement (CE) and technical assistance in multiple levels (systems, organizations and individuals), Ms. Lacanienta has overseen CE projects for health systems planning and population health research in the fields of HIV, chronic health conditions, and care access for communities experiencing syndemic conditions. She directs multi-university collaborations on training development and research on the science of team science, collaboration and community engagement. As lead for ICTR’s community engagement teams, she promotes best practices on community engaged research throughout the research life cycle and dissemination of best practices through workshops, training, consultation and support of trusted spaces and places, including the annual Henrietta Lacks Memorial Lecture. As the community engagement and outreach director for the NIH Community Engagement Alliance in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, she works closely with local site principal investigators in George Washington University, Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and University of Maryland Baltimore to promote bi-directional engagement between communities and academic research teams to address chronic conditions in strengthen participation of local communities in clinical and translational research.
