A03 - SBER and Biomedical IRBs: Opportunities for Shared Learning
Thursday, November 6, 2025
10:15 AM - 11:15 AM ET
It is common for IRB offices to be structured around either SBER or biomedical research, whether due to the institution’s research portfolio or by intentional design. This division can help manage workload, focus expertise, and promote consistency in board review. However, this separation may also create knowledge gaps. This session, from the perspective of SBER-focused IRB staff, will explore what SBER and biomedical IRBs can learn from one another and how shared insights can strengthen review practices across domains.
Learning Objectives:
Review key differences in regulatory approaches, board expertise, and risk assessment between SBER and biomedical IRBs
Recognize areas where SBER IRB offices may benefit from support and insights from biomedical IRB counterparts
Explore collaborative strategies, including board consultations and shared educational initiatives
