Pearl initially worked as a pediatric intensivist, researcher and educator. After working as Deputy Director, Office of Sciene Policy in the Director's Office at the NIH. she became the Director of Human Research Affairs for Partners Healthcare in Boston, MA where she was resposoible for the IRB system.
