Alissa Hatfield is the Manager of Science Policy at the American Physiological Society where she works on
science policy topics relating to animal research. In this role, she follows legislative issues related to animal
research and participates in Congressional education on these topics. She also organizes the American
Physiological Society’s responses to agency Requests for Information on issues pertaining to animal research.
Prior to a career in science policy, Hatfield studied the effects of hormonal contraceptives on basic immune
function while studying laboratory animal science at Stanford University. Hatfield received a B.S in physiology
from University of Arizona and an M.S in laboratory animal science from Stanford University.
