Lisa R. Ballance, MA, CPW, CCP, CHRC, is the Associate Vice President for Research in the Divisions of Research Compliance, Strategy and Regulatory Affairs, Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and VCU Health System. Ballance has the honor of overseeing the talented team leads for the Research Compliance Program, the Human Research Protection Program, the Animal Care and Use Program, and Regulatory Affairs. Ballance also leads core elements of VCU’s research strategy with an emphasis on growing leaders, expanding quality, and developing program effectiveness. With more than 30 years of experience in research compliance, integrity, subject protections, clinical trials, and corporate and foundation relations, Ballance is committed to transparency, quality, collaboration, and public impact. Ballance previously served as the Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Research and Innovation at VCU and Executive Director for Research Compliance. Ballance has earned a bachelor’s degree in scientific and technical writing, a master's degree in rhetoric and applied ethics, and has achieved numerous certifications, including board certification in health research compliance. Ballance was an active member of ARENA, then PRIM&R, a proud mentee of Dr. Charlie McCarthy, and recently became a member of AEREO: The Consortium to Advance Effective Research Ethics Oversight. Balancing out her role, Ballance is a dedicated partner and parent, and enjoys paddleboarding with her Vizsla.
