Ms. Eto has over 20 years of experience in the field of human subjects research protections managing research compliance, technology risk assessment, data sharing agreements; conducting the review of complex industry and federally funded AI research, and policy interpretation and development. She leverages this experience to implement policies and guidance to AI-enabled research projects and works closely with innovators and regulatory bodies in addressing ethical and regulatory challenges related to novel technology. To facilitate researchers and Institutional Review Board (IRB)/Ethics Committees (EC) professionals across the US she has developed tools and checklists for IRBs to use in their review of AI research, as well as has published several training modules and webinars for the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R). Ms. Eto serves as an AI Ethics Advisory Board member for the Institute of Experiential AI (EAI) at Northeastern University; a Policy Advisor and Teaching Fellow at the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP); OECD.AI Expert Working Group Member; member of the National IRB Collaborative for AI/ML/Big Data (PRIM&R/Emory); member of the National Task Force for IRB Review of Clinical Trials involving AI (MRCT/WCG); the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST Generative AI Public Working Group), AEREO: The Consortium to Advance Effective Research Ethics Oversight; IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology and Standards Association; and is Associate Editor and Board Member for Systems Concepts, Theory and Policy in Biology and Medicine Journal.
