Joan Margiotta, J.D., is an Associate General Counsel at NYU Langone Health, where she provides legal advice and guidance in a wide range of areas related to biomedical research at NYU Langone Health's integrated academic medical center, which hosts a robust research enterprise. She serves as counsel to the institution's Research on Decedents Oversight Committee, the Institutional Review Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and provides advice and guidance to other institutional clients on matters involving research regulatory compliance, research misconduct, government investigations, litigation, intellectual property, HIPAA, FOIA, data sharing, and grants stewardship.
Prior to joining NYU Langone Health in 2021, she served as an Associate General Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel at The City University of New York for seven years focusing on research, student affairs, employment matters, and city government contracting. Prior to that, Joan worked in a number of New York City agencies including the Department of Investigation, the Law Department, and the Office of the Mayor, following a federal district court clerkship in the Southern District of New York. Joan received her J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and her A.B. with Distinction from Stanford University.
