CeCe Brotchie-Fine serves as Executive Director, Ethics, a member of the Ethics, Risk & Compliance organization supporting Research & Development teams within Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this role, she held positions within the Animal Welfare Compliance organization at Novartis and served as IACUC Chair for many years. Stemming from her initial research exposure in biotech settings and studying desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) nutrition at the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park, she maintains a strong interest in all aspects of ethics related to research with animals and the ethical nuances that accompany all forms of animal:human relationships. Transitioning into her current role, her scope of practice has expanded to include clinical research, and the myriad bioethical considerations related to innovative R&D to meet the need for safe and effective therapies for patients around the world. CeCe also serves as a lecturer for the Bioethics graduate program at Columbia University and is a participant in clinical ethics workstreams for two projects with the EU-based Innovative Health Initiative (IHI). She completed a BS in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, MA in Counseling Psychology at Lesley University, MS in Bioethics at Columbia University and Doctorate of Bioethics at Loyola University Chicago. CeCe is also a Certified Professional in IACUC Administration, and enjoys connecting with and mentoring those new to the field of research ethics.
